Up Close – Pantofola d’Oro Del Duca

What could be better than a pair of Golden Slippers that actually fits inside your budget? The Pantofola d’Oro Del Duca is the latest in Italian craftsmanship, built with all the quality you’d expect from a Pantofola release. Yet the price deviates substantially from the norm, dropping in at a very competitive $110. But, what are you getting for that price, and are they actually value for money?

First off, the upper on the Del Duca is a calf skin leather that offers a great fit and a soft touch. No it isn’t a k-leather like we are familiar seeing on Pantofola boots. But that is what makes these a more affordable option. There is a vast amount of noticeable stitching across the vamp that keeps the leather from stretching, as well as adding a bit of an old school look. Along the side of the boot, the iconic 3 gold stars sits embroidered onto the upper, adding to the “Golden Slipper” brand effect.

Underfoot, Pantofola use their traditional style rubber studded outsole, providing players with simple traction and comfortable fit all game long. The conical studs are perfect for quick cuts and twisting and turning on FG and on AG surfaces.

From experience, I found that they fit slightly narrow, with a little extra length. So, kind of like a tube effect, where wide fitting players won’t enjoy them as much out of the box. You will get some stretch from them, especially with all that stitching, but they are better suited to players with a medium width. I ordered a size 9US and although they fit a little long, I wouldn’t have swapped them for a smaller size.

Finally, adding to the old school feel, you get laces that can double tie around your foot! Oh yes, long laces; something that has become a novelty on boots in recent times. But for the traditionalists out there, the opportunity to tie your laces around your foot might just be the addition that seals the deal!
