Up Close – Nike MagistaX Proximo Goes Total Orange

We’ve covered quite a bit on the new NikeFootballX series in recent weeks, including the introduction of the indoor focused MagistaX Proximo IC. After some soul searching, we admitted defeat in our efforts to obtain a pair in the introductory Stealth Black version and took the extremely vibrant Total Orange colorway into our presence with open arms!

Let me start by saying that this colorway is everything you would expect – these boots are wildly bright! Total Orange on any boot is highly visible, but when you increase it up along a mid-cut collar it has a complete stand-out effect. We’ve been exposed to colors in many different shades of Neon over time, but there is something different about this colorway that gives it that extra, unexpected layer of pop. Need an indoor shoe to stand out in? Then I’d say look no further – as long as they match your playing style of course!

NikeFootballX merges Nike’s pinnacle boot technology with design elements unique to small-sided football. We’ve met with small-sided players all over the world and they want the same performance benefits Magista and Mercurial provide, but with outsoles and colorways unique to their game.

From a performance perspective, you get everything you’d expect from the MagistaX right through the upper of the boot. Once you slip your feet into them, comfort becomes the norm. The entire upper of the Obra envelopes around your foot like no other boot does, and the collar completes a very dynamic fit and feel. Even across the area where a tongue normally exists, the soft knit upper sits flush and provides a snug fit in the right areas. Technically, the boots could be worn without laces but with them in tied you get to really personalize a secure fit.

At this point we are pretty familiar with Nike Flyknit, but as a refresher it is intended to defy conventional shoe manufacturing processes by effectively implementing an engineered upper woven from special yarns. Utilizing a custom Nike last and Nike Flyknit construction, MagistaX offers a snug fit at the arch, heel and forefoot, and the added element of a Dynamic Fit collar hugs players in, locking them down in the boot.

Around the lip of the shoe, these feature recycled Nike Grind rubber on high abrasion and drag areas for enhanced durability. Think of this as the region that sits just above the soleplate to upper join. To the touch, it feels slightly rough but it serves its purpose pretty perfectly.

Underfoot, the MagistaX features a responsive Lunarlon midsole, perfect for a little extra spring back on indoor courts (IC). The honeycomb style panels that line the soleplate are the same ones used on prior Elastico series, so it is obviously an area that Nike have confidence in.
