Fresh off last week’s announcement that Puma were releasing an evoPOWER 1.2 Graphic dedicated to the Japanese Dragon; Puma have decided once again to “Enter the Dragon” with their latest evoSPEED 1.3 colourway. Unlike the dragons on Game of Thrones, the Japanese Dragon is a traditional representation of speed, power, wisdom and agility. That is definitely a combination which suits the players such as Sergio Agüero, Marco Reus and Marco Verratti who will be debuting this new release.
The boot itself is a White/Sea Pine/High Risk Red colourway and is definitely a head turner. Especially when teamed up with the dragon which wraps the boot from head to tail on the medial and lateral sides of the boot. The upper of the new release goes ‘full dragon’ as well, with the synthetic upper and Grip-Tex coating resembling a dragon’s scales.
Performance wise the evoSPEED 1.3 is a solid option for those looking for a lighter boot, definitely something for the out and out wingers and the pacey players. The “scaled” upper should also offer a boot which is a little bit more forgiving on a players first touch than the standard 1.3 release. Something which will also be of aid to those players who have to extricate themselves and the ball from a tightly marked situation on the pitch.
Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero was quite excited when speaking about the new boot;
“I love the new dragon boot that PUMA made for us. I hope that this Japanese dragon also stands for luck and success, because I need them to perform well with me during these important matches at the end of the season and also for the Copa America in Chile when I play with Argentina. The boots are really comfortable, just like my previous evoSPEED 1.3 boots, so I feel really confident in them.”
