Over the past few seasons, we have seen some exclusive releases hit the market but get less obvious attention on pitch. With the Adidas adiZero 99g, we know things are going to be a little different! Hakan Çalhanoğlu, who plays with Bayer Leverkusen, will debut the silo against Hannover today. He is the first of several players we expect to see debut the new releases, as adidas look to emphatically celebrate their ability to create the lightest boot EVER to hit the market!
And for Hakan Calhanoglu it should also be a decently simple transition as he moves from the adiZero f50 to its super lightweight compatriot. One of the key questions will be how long Calhanoglu wears the boot. If we think back to the Primeknit release, Luis Suarez wore his pair for one game, and Gareth Bale jumped out of the adiZero Crazylight after just a few games.
In order to create the lightest boot ever, adidas added some key new elements to the boot:
- 1mm polyamide outsole that reduces weight but has the rigidity to perform at the highest level.
- Lightweight upper made from a single layer of woven polyester mesh.
- Unique stud layout to ensure fastest movements in all directions
To put it all into perspective, the new adizero 99g is nearly half the weight of a standard cleat. And because of the materials used, regardless of the weather conditions, the material stays 99g, unlike synthetic or leather cleats that get heavier when wet! That could be a real deal breaker when it comes to performance in different playing conditions.
So, you are interested in claiming a pair of 99g? Well, it is not going to be easy. The 299 pairs released worldwide sold out in minutes, meaning you need to join the eBay rat race if you want to claim a pair. Personally, the pairs already listed are way over price but you are going to need to overspend to secure a pair!
