Earlier today, we were introduced to the official release version of the new silo. But what better way to get an understanding for the all new Adidas adiZero 99g than to catch up with Hazim Kulak, Product Manager for the boot. This is a boot that took a lot of research to create, with the lightweight boot encountering many construction challenges along the way. The end result is a boot set to revolutionize the market and the way we think about boot construction – Kulak answers a few simple questions to give us an inside look at how the adiZero 99g became a reality!
“In 2013, we gave you a sneak-peak of the 99g concept. We promised our consumers that in two years, we’d make that boot happen on pitch. This is the lightest boot ever.” – Hazim Kulak
What does the launch of the adizero 99g mean for adidas?
The adizero 99g boot is the latest and greatest innovation piece of adidas football.
Can you tell us more about how the adizero 99g became a reality?
We were inspired by some very special textile lightweight material of NASA, that they are using for their lightweight products. The base material is not affected by any weather conditions, so it’s always 99g.
The boot has an engineered skeleton that gives you additional protection, and added to the base material on top and thin, high-tech outsole are the key elements that created the lightest boot that the world has ever seen.
Why did you want to create the adizero 99g?
The lighter you are, the quicker you can score a goal or make a play. This boot is limited in number – there are only 299 pairs available. So be fast, be quick, speed wins.
If you want a pair, we are hearing that there will be a very limited number released (in size 9US only) Wednesday, April 15th on Soccer.com. (*Available on WorldSoccerShop.com on Tuesday)
