In what could be one of the most shocking moves of this transfer season, Zenit has signed world star Bart Simpson. The official terms have not been released but there was FC Zenit and 20th Century Fox agreed on terms before Bart underwent the physical, signing of the contract, and first training session. Because the character first appeared on television in 1987, he will be taking the number 87. Simpson joins Zenit as their third main summer signing alongside Javi Garcia and Ezequiel Garay.
As of right now, we can’t be sure how Zenit will be including Bart in their squad but it does seem as if Andre Villas-Boas was pleased to meet the new signing. He enjoyed a warm welcome from the players at the training ground which shows that his attitude and mentality is where it should be. It seems as if Bart is currently wearing an unbranded pair of cleats with Zenit’s Sky Blue color and their logo on the side. Perhaps one of the big companies will snatch this talent up in the coming weeks and have him wear their signature boots? I’d keep an eye out because it will be interesting to see what brand a talent like Bart will choose.
Zenit released an exclusive video which include’s the player’s signing, medical, and meetings with other players and even the coach AVB. Earlier this year, the Simpsons also signed a deal with Chelsea to kick off their collaboration between the TV show and the popular sport of football (soccer). They even had a soccer themed episode in their campaign. So while it is a big marketing stunt, it does help add a fun perspective on deadline day and the soccer world. And hopefully we might even see a little more of Bart Simpson in Zenit’s upcoming campaign.
