Lionel Messi is set to kick of the La Liga season in an all new custom pair of adidas adiZero F50 in a wildly unusual Gold colorway. This is the type of boot that takes a double take, as you start to notice a pattern layering the upper. This pattern is actually a series of Spanish words that evoke the magic of the Barca talisman.
What makes these so unique is the fact that adidas has taken the Messi Philosophy and imprinted it along the upper of the boot, using inspirational wording to create the design. As you can see from the images, it looks a lot different up close than it does from a distance.
Along with the upper print, “mas que un botin” (more than a boot) is featured on the insoles. You get a Sprint insole inside the boot, while adidas also include a Comfort version in the box.
Performance wise, this release has the very same type of performance on offer as we have seen on previous Messi custom releases. It is important, however, to note that they are different to the regular adiZero F50 release! On the original version, SpeedFoil is added to the reverse side of the boot, around the ankle, providing a different type of fit and a lighter feel. DribbleTex is also added to the forefoot of the upper providing a more textured feel for players on the ball. The Messi edition has a smooth, leather like finish that is ever so slightly tacky to the touch. The upper is also a one piece, so there is no SpeedFoil on the heel. Both boots are very different and that is definitely something that should be kept in consideration if the adiZero range is your desired boot of choice.
Over the coming weeks, adidas is also set to release a second custom Messi colorway that he will wear in Champions League action. It is unlikely we will see Messi wearing these through the entire season, but expect to see him wearing them over the first dozen domestic league games or so. It is a perk of being of the best players to ever play the game, right?
