The shift in International matches to a Friday and Tuesday slot, gives people maximum time to sit down and get in front of the television to watch their national team, but it also gives the keen eyes at Soccercleats101 boot spotters multiple matches across the globe to feast their eyes on.
We received a comment on last week’s boot spotting from Ireland; it was regarding Rickie Lambert’s choice of boots. We correctly identified he would be playing in the Nike CTR360 in the Blue/Volt colourway and scored another goal in his second game for England.
João Moutinho took to the field in Portugal in Northern Ireland, in the new colourway in the Nitrocharge silo. But that match turned out to be more in the spotlight for poor Steven Davis (formally a Puma wearer who has moved into CTR 360s) who was given the run-around by Cristiano Ronaldo deft nutmeg in his Mercurial Vapors. It has done the rounds on Youtube, as you can see below. Also worth pointing out is the fact that CR grabbed a pretty important hattrick!
As the international were being played the lower leagues in England had a full set of fixtures. One game that caught my eye was MK Dons versus Swindon Town where I spotted two players in Mizuno silos. Ex Manchester United player Luke Chadwick was wearing the Mizuno Morelia Neo in the yellow/blue colourway. Not to be outdone, his teammate Anthony Kay was wearing the Mizuno Wave Ignitus II in the white/red colourway.
A legend to the game from his time with Celtic and Aston Villa, Stiliyan Petrov’s charity match was played during the week with Legends of the game turning out to help a great cause. The man of the moment wore the little used Predator LZ in the white and red colourway.
The legends of the game settled for the old reliable, the Adidas Copa Mundials, Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and Paul Lambert all when for those boots, but Jamie Redknapp went for the Nike Tiempo Ronaldinho brown silo.
In the second round of International games, few interesting spots to mention where Joe Hart in the “whiteout” version of the Umbro Speciali, in the same game Frank Lampard took to the field for the 100th time for England and used his Adidas adiPures as a moving tribute to his late mother. In the Ireland game, James McClean turned out in the Black/White colurway of the Mercurial Vapors, Anthony Pilkington also was like Joe Hart and wore a pair of “white out” adiZero’s in their game against Austria.
Final spot – As some of the players were not on International duty, the spot that jumped out to was recent Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o. He was reporting earning €20m a year after tax as Anzhi Makhachkala but it seems like he has a likeness for some older model Puma boots. More to come on that next week as he looks to make his debut.
