Some of the most frequently asked questions I get are, “What insoles are good?” “Where can I get soccer insoles?” and “My insole wore out, what do I do?”. I usually refer them to their nearest sporting goods store or shoe shop. I even send them a link to the sparse selection of insoles from online soccer retailers. However I find that most of the time they have already tried some of these options and found that the insoles didn’t quite cut it or didn’t fit right in their cleats.
Shock Doctor have recently come out with insoles in addition to their braces and other protection gear. I was quite keen to get my hands on them when I heard because their braces worked out so well for me. Lately I have been having some foot issues so I thought that new insoles might do some good. The Low Profile insole is geared toward soccer cleats so I set off to find out if they make the cut! I tested them out in the Nike Bomba and Nike Trequartista III for over 15 games.
Making the “Cut”
First off, when I got them in I knew I would have to trim them down to size. I think this is something some buyers forget to do and end up thinking that they aren’t the right size. Shock Doctor however has included instructions on how to properly fit the insole to the cleat you want to use it in. Cutting them down was a cinch and they fit in both cleats used for testing perfectly. So remember guys, cut them down to size before dubbing them a flop! You can do this by taking out the insoles from the cleats and question and tracing them out or measuring them and cutting the new insoles appropriately. I left mine a bit larger than the insoles so I can use them in cleats that are slightly longer in length.
Comfort and Performance
They did take a quick 15 minute break in period where they felt too thick for the cleat, but the insole adjusted quick and became very comfortable. They seem to take a while to adjust to the contours of the foot. I noticed that even after the first game the condition of my feet after were much improved, they weren’t nearly as sore and my left foot wasn’t paining me like it usually did post game. My knees actually felt a little better as well which was nice. There was no sliding or issues with them fit wise in either cleat and I liked them more than either the Bomba or Trequartista insole. They do everything that they are claimed to do which is pretty cool considering the list is lengthy. They give good arch support, reduced stress on joints, increased balance, assist with dispersing cleat pressure and they help control foot odor! It does this all without adding much bulk which is nice.
Overall
Other than the initial break in I had no issues with them, I actually liked them more than any insole so far. They left my feet feeling happy which in turn made me happy. They definitely boosted the comfort levels of each boot I wore them in. Trimming them down to size wasn’t an issue, I just had to make sure the scissors I used weren’t dull. They are well worth the $20 investment.

Hi Jim,
You may try Poron insole as well. I think its great for fustal and indoor soccer.
Did you have any issues in terms of fit through the heel? I threw a brand new pair into my leather adizero micoaches (the ones that had the dopey sprintweb running across the forefoot) and theres a little bit of creasing in the heel, and I’m not sure how to fix that. Any tips?
Great post!
