Dressed in space purple, the World Cup edition Nike Tiempo Legend 9, released as part of the Generation Pack, became one of the best colorway releases of 2022. And we managed to get our hands on a pair before they eventually sell out!
Nike designed this one to celebrate the game’s biggest competition, ignited by the “science of connectivity and gravity” that the world stage inspires. Featuring a stunning futuristic look made for the globe’s greatest players, these cleats have raised textures backed by soft foam pods for precise dribbling, passing and scoring in 1 of the lightest Tiempos released to date. They also combine the classic touch of leather with the attest cutting edge technology.
There are also several special symbols around the design that make them different to other models, for example a nod to the host’s whereabouts, as well as Nike’s WHQ coordinates and emblems that speak to the science of connected energy. You will find them along the heel area.
In terms of touch, a premium kangaroo leather upper is backed by soft foam pods that allow you to receive the ball with ease and place your shots and passes with precision. Nike use a redesigned rose gold colored plate underfoot, it boasts a new stud layout specially designed for quicker cuts and sharper stops. Combined, they help reduce the boot’s weight down to just 7.3 oz.
Immediately fan attention has focused on how these have a very CTR360 style design, bringing back a wave of nostalgia for what was a fan favorite. And maybe that played on the minds of the Nike design team, as they looked to incorporate some key elements from the former control boot. In reality, it makes sense, as Nike look to take the Tiempo Legend in a much more modern direction, keeping a traditional leather upper for total comfort and implementing some control pods for improved touch on the ball.
