It has been on the cards for a few weeks, but today Memphis Depay officially announced that he was signing with PUMA.
A longtime Under Armour wearer, and a key endorsee for the brand, this is a change that we have forseen coming for a while. Since moving to Barcelona, there hadn’t been a lot of promotion from UA, who seem to be dropping out of the soccer market. Memphis was always in need of a new brand where he could showcase his flashy personal style, and PUMA are the brand that will provide the blank canvas.
In his most recent game, Memphis scored vs Athletic Bilbao while wearing the newest Puma ULTRA 1.4, part of the latest Flare Pack. Lightweight and built for speed, the ULTRA is the most logical option for his playing style. And we definitely expect to see some custom Memphis versions released very soon!
“I think it’s really crazy how light the ULTRA is, the weight of the shoe. I haven’t really played in a shoe that light before, so I feel like I will benefit from that. Also, the grip on the shoe, for me, even small details, like the back heel, it’s soft and smooth. Yes, those are for me, more the important things, obviously, because I have to run and work in it, and then the colorways for me, they’re crazy.”
