Carli Lloyd signed off for the USWNT last night in their 6-0 win vs South Korea, and was celebrated in several huge ways. She played just over 60 minutes, got a thunderous round of applause as she left the field for the final time, was celebrated with a jumbotron video at the end of the game, and also wore a special pair of custom Mercurial Vapor 14 that Nike created just for her.
It is the boots that caught our attention, especially when she signed off by taking them off as she was being substituted. She obviously got to choose the colors, with a classy black base with champion gold as the detailing. On the side, it listed the years she has played the game – 1987 to 2021. On the heel, she got a signature U.S. soccer logo.
Lloyd, 39, ranks second in the world for most-ever international appearances, having played in 315 career games. She scored 134 international goals with the U.S., third most in the history of the women’s team.
“It’s been emotional. But there’s just a sense of peace and contentment that I feel – it’s just joy and happiness. It’s been an amazing journey and I gave it all I had, and now I can walk away into the next chapter.” – Carli Lloyd
These special boots are obviously a custom pair that won’t be available to purchase. But, you can find all currently available colorways of Mercurial Vapor 14 (including some signature black pairs) at SOCCER.com.
