In case you missed it, Ronnie Brunswijk – the current Vice President of Suriname – played in a CONCACAF Champions League match last night…..at the youthful age of 60 years old. Yes, you read that right – Vice President, 60 years old, playing in CL action!
Brunswijk, who owns Inter Moengotapoe and is a a former rebel commander, captained and played for his team on Tuesday in both halves totaling 54 minutes against Honduran side Olimpia. Olimpia easily won the game 6-0.
When you are vice president, you get your choice of boots and that is what we wanted to look at. Brunswijk chose to bring out his inner Ronaldo/Neymar, wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor NJR “Puro Fenomeno” that were released in 2018. It is a boot that borrows aesthetic cues from the Superfly II Neymar wore on his debut for the Brasil National Team and pays homage to Ronaldo’s original Mercurial boots from 1998.
Adding to the madness, after the game, video was streamed from Olimpia’s locker room that appears to show Ronnie Brunswijk giving people in the locker room cash while leaving the locker room with an Olimpia jersey. The jersey swap can be explained, but passing cash about…..we might hear more about this one in the coming days!
