What Boots Should Ronaldo Wear On His Return to Man Utd?

CR7 with Mercurial Vapor Superfly

Since leaving for Real Madrid in 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Old Trafford on several occasions with different clubs. Yesterday’s breaking news will make his next appearance a very different one, as CR7 returns “home.” Manchester United nearly broke the internet by announcing they had re-signed their Portuguese playmaker from Juventus.

That got us thinking; what boots could he wear on his return to really make a dramatic statement? There is no doubt that Nike will take the opportunity to create something special for him, something that highlights the current Nike Superfly silo. But, we wanted to take a look back on some pairs that would really make a splash. So, this is more for fun and a way to look back at some iconic releases!

Ronaldo Spark Positivity Superfly Boots

1 – CR7 Superfly “Spark Positivity Pack”

These are actually a legit contender, a boot that Ronaldo wore recently at the Euros, where he won the Golden Boot. They are actually the current Superfly silo, so tech wise he would be wearing the most modern version of his preferred boot.

The colorway would also look sweet with the current United kit. In recent weeks, however, he had moved onto the latest Motivation Pack version of Superfly, so it seems like this specific colorway has been retired.

You can still find pairs available at SOCCER.com.

2009 Mercurial Vapor Superfly Black and Red

2 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly, 2009

What about the boots that Ronaldo wore when he moved to Real Madrid? The black with solo yellow detailing was the actual pair he wore during the announcement ceremony. He then wore them for his debut in La Liga on August 29, 2009, against Deportivo La Coruña, scoring from the penalty spot in Madrid’s 3-2 home win.

I did have a little mental debate about this one though, because we could have also picked the red version that he wore while clinching his third Premier League title with Man Utd. A return in the same boots he wore before leaving the club? I like that idea.

Ronaldo Debut's Quinto Triunfo

3 – CR7 Quinto Triunfo

What about a boot that celebrates CR7’s brilliance? Quinto Triunfo, which translates as “Fifth Win”, was another signature release intended to celebrate CR7’s personal accomplishments through 2017.

Within the Swoosh and visible with movement, the years of his previous and current Ballon d’Or awards appear: 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. How about a boot that shows his desire to win another one?

Special CR7 Boots Campeoes

4 – CR7 Mercurial Campeoes

This was a custom release created in celebration of Portugal’s Euro 2016 championship. The boots feature Portugal’s signature Red and Green team colors, flip them over and you will find a golden soleplate added to upgrade the color effect. A unique heel counter and sockliner further celebrate Ronaldo’s national pride.

Maybe not the best choice since they are geared toward his international team, but the colors are on point and would look perfect alongside the latest Man Utd home kit.

Nike Vapor V Risk Red

5 – Vapor V in “Risk Red”

One of the final boots worn by Ronaldo during the 2009 season before he headed to Real Madrid. This was the Vapor version of the Superfly listed above.

Released in 2009, the Vapor V used Flywire technology through the instep to allow for a lightweight cleat that weighed in at 8.4oz. What makes them really unique is that unmistakable lace cover. These are one of the most iconic boots for Mercurial fans, so they would make for a signature boot to wear.

Nike Vapor X CR

6 – CR7 Vapor X

Let’s say that Ronaldo wants to place more focus on his performance than his boots, a signature black pair would be an ideal option. And my personal preference, looks and performance wise, would be the 2015 CR7 Vapor X.

Up close, the Shimmer Effect is subtle yet very effective in producing a balanced look perfect for both serious, get the job done players and in-game entertainers. The sparkle effect that is placed on the black synthetic upper, takes things to a persuasive grey shade. Also, added note, they featured a built in tongue, where it wasn’t seperated on either side. This was one of the first boots to introduce an ankle style fit.

Ronaldo 100 Goals Concept Boots

7 – Superfly 100 International Goals Concept

Ok, so these were just a concept boot to celebrate Ronaldo scoring 100 international goals, but my word would they be a stunning colorway to debut on your second debut! Dripped in solar green with gold detailing, they are a boot absolutely worth gracing the feet of one of the greatest ever.

On the outer side of the right heel, a large 100 highlights the milestone with the Portuguese emblem inside the first zero. On the left heel, you get a signature CR7 logo. And lets be honest, that boot box is worth the price of admission alone. Again, these were a concept boot so unfortunately you won’t find them available anywhere.

Nike Motivation Pack Mercurial Vapor

9 – Superfly VIII “Motivation Pack”

And finally, the pair he is currently wearing and most likely to wear on his Old Trafford return. This Motivation Pack colorway is incredibly visual, they stand out on pitch and offer a statement look.

Pictured is the Vapor version, we know that Ronaldo likes his own custom, signature style cut that are slightly lower than the standard Superfly design.

This colorway can be found at SOCCER.com.
