Introduced in a metallic fade colorway, the limited edition New Balance Tekela v2 ‘Pitch Control’ takes inspiration from a DJ’s ability to “control rhythm and tempo.” We received a pair from NB and wanted to take a closer look at what they are all about.
The key piece of the design is the Kinetic Stitch dynamic embroidered bands that run across the upper of the boot. It serves multiple functions in play, adding visual effect and performance benefits. First, it creates a definitive forefoot lock-down, ensuring the upper provides a snug fit around your foot. In turn, it also helps with aggressive cutting stability. And finally, the knit material creates extra texture across the surface of the boot, so you get a little extra tackiness on the ball. It isn’t a proper control element, but it does play a role especially if you are playing on a slick pitch where the ball skids off the surface.
Just like the original Tekela, a soft and thin synthetic microfiber is used through the upper, offering a comfortable fit all around the foot. Added to that is the Kinetic Stitch embroidered bands, placed across key high stress zones, offering more lock-down and stability where you need it. You get a single piece collar that has a fully bonded “no sew” seam for superior midfoot lock-in and ultimate feel on the ball.
