Initial Reaction to the Copa 19+ and Copa 19.1

adidas COPA19+ vs COPA19.1

They have been on the market a while, but we finally managed to get our hands on both top tiers in the adidas COPA19 series and wanted to share some initial feedback. After finishing the X19+ review, where the laceless upper combines synthetic materials to keep you locked in the boots, it is somewhat of a breath of fresh air to move back to a knit collar and a K-leather combo. So much so, that my interest in laceless technology is piqued again.

When it comes to that k-leather upper, everything is as you’d expect from a COPA release. To the touch, it is incredibly supple with a very natural pliable feel on offer. Added to that is the puff texture effect, almost like the body of the Michelin man in boot form. How that feels on the ball, well I’ll have to let you know after having the opportunity to wear them on pitch. But it all seems pretty exciting.

Given that I’m more of a laced fan than a laceless, I’m also eager to see what the COPA 19.1 has on offer. Visually, the big difference is the fact the 19.1 has an unusual cut around the lacing area and some laces with a reflective tech. But to the touch, the k-leather upper is more supple on the 19.1 than the 19+. This is because you need the material on the laceless version to be a little tighter, with the intent of keeping the upper more snug around your foot.

Both boots will go into testing this week, with reviews to follow soon after. If you have any specific questions you want answered about either, let us know in the comments.
