Over the past few weeks, we have been awaiting an extremely unique new Superfly release. Today they dropped, but with a twist. Welcome in the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 ‘LVL UP’, a release intended to celebrate 20 years of iconic Nike Mercurial boots and the embodiment of explosive speed through color and design.
When it comes to the design, Nike use a tonal, this new special edition features different elements found on some of the boldest Mercurial boots made in the past decade. Take the upper, for example. Nike use a reflective white-on-white safari print that is inspired by the Nike Air Safari running shoe introduced in 1987 and seen on a Mercurial boot for the first time in 2010. The heritage of this print is also reflected on the black-on-black Swoosh.

Then there is that wildly distinctive color stripe that honors Mercurial’s rich style heritage. It is the combination of safari, silverware, cheetah, galaxy, gold and lava-inspired patterns that are blended with neon hues, metallics and volt. The vibrant multicolor band wraps the forefoot and flows from the underfoot to the heel. The graphic is also displayed uniformly atop the tongue.
It is no secret that these were intended to be a signature Cristiano Ronaldo release, signified by the colors used in that distinctive color stripe. But the pending rape charges against CR7 changed Nike’s direction, and instead they decided to release it as a celebratory boot. It begs the question; will we actually see another CR7 signature boot release?
