You might have spotted some incredible new custom boots in action during Premier League games this weekend. Electronic Arts (EA) and adidas teamed up with four top PL players, creating stunning personalized football boots based on each player’s playing style and the ‘Javelin suit’ that represents them from EA’s brand new game Anthem.
EA and adidas used the talented French boot-designer Pierre Navarro to create the detailed looks. You might recognize Navarro better as Orravan Design, previously designing pairs for Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Didier Drogba and a host of other stars.
Jesse Lingard, Felipe Anderson, Erik Lamela and Kasper Schmeichel will each wear boots with a unique design in the colors and style of the Storm, Interceptor, Ranger and Colossus Javelin suits available in Anthem. In the game, the Javelin suits provide their wearers with superhuman capabilities.
Storm | Jesse Lingard
Boots: adidas Nemeziz 19.1
A specialist in inflicting damage from distance.
“I love that these boots are completely unique to me. I’m into my fashion so to have bespoke boots is pretty special. I can’t wait to get out on the pitch to see whether I can deliver some damage from long-range like the Storm.”
Interceptor | Felipe Anderson
Boots: adidas Predator 19+
The most agile, equipped with lightning-fast speed.
“I always try to play with speed and agility, so the Interceptor definitely suits me and my style. I love the bright green of the design. Hopefully it will dazzle my opponents when I’m running at them with the ball.”
Ranger | Erik Lamela
Boots: adidas Copa 19.1
An all-rounder that has strong defence and attack.
“This is the first time I have ever worn customised boots like this. I’m a big fan of gaming, as are many of my teammates, so to be part of launching a brand new game is really exciting. I can’t wait to unleash some firepower on the pitch and online in Anthem!”
Colossus | Kasper Schmeichel
Boots: adidas Copa 19.1
Large and most powerful, commanding the combat area.
“Power and strength are key to any goalkeeper’s game so Colossus is a great fit for me. I always have loved bright boots as I feel they make me look bigger and more imposing in goal.”
Pierre Navarro, who created the four Anthem Javelin boots from his studio in La Rochelle, France, commented:
“It has been a wonderful experience to be able to draw inspiration from the colors and beautiful world of Anthem and the special powers of the Javelin suits. I hope the boots can help give the players superhuman powers on the pitch.”
The boots were worn in games on Saturday, March 9th. Lamela wore his vs Southampton, Schmeichel vs Fulham, Anderson vs Cardiff City, while Jesse Lingard will wear his pair when he returns from injury.
