Mizuno has dropped a worldy with the re-introduction of an absolute icon, the Wave Cup Legend that was worn by Rivaldo at the 2002 World Cup. This limited edition boot is a modern remake, taking design elements and performance cues from the original, while also incorporating a dash of current day tech.
We don’t often see For those that remember the 2002 World Cup, these were absolutely iconic! That mix of White/Blue and Yellow detailing gives the Runbird a very unmistakable look. This is the second release in what Mizuno is calling the “Rebuild Project.”
Built using a super supple kangaroo leather, the Wave Cup offers a very moldable shape that adapts perfectly over time to the player wearing them. They also feature cross stitching to prevent the leather from over stretching, while allowing for a little more cushion on the ball. The one iconic piece that remains is the fold over tongue, creating that classic silhouette look. On the tongue, there are also five stars representing the five World Cup trophies Brazil has won. Finally, underfoot, An unbelievably lightweight and low profile outsole uses bladed studs in the original set up, just like in 2002.
