The arrival of the next generation X18 Speed series is right around the corner, with adidas looking to ramp up their line-up of boots set to be worn in Russia this Summer. There is a definite new approach with this latest design that turns the X into a signature “speed” style silo.
In recent weeks hype for the new silo has been steadily increasing. We have seen players such as Gareth Bale, N’Golo Kante, Alvaro Morata, Lucas Moura and Aymeric Laporte training in blackout pairs. Although we don’t have a definite release date, rumor has it they will be worn by several players in the Champions League final next week.
So, what have we learned about them to date? Well, they are going to feature several fresh modifications. The 18+ will be laceless, which is obviously a major difference to the 17+. It will also feature a new upper called skeletalweave and a “claw collar” to create an updated type of lockdown. The 18.1 will be designed using a Speedmesh upper with a speed closure lacing system. Underfoot, old school adidas fans will be pleased to hear they feature a Speedframe outsole. We are starting to think they might be the 2018 version of the f50 adiZero!
Expect a lot more details on the new X18 series to drop over the next few days!
