You’ve probably read some details about the Limited Edition, color changing Furon Hydra released by New Balance today, but have you seen them in action? The Hydra Edition features an extremely unique water reactive upper. It is the white New Balance ‘N’ branding and white trim on through the laces that reacts when struck by water, changing color to a Vivid Cactus. It creates a very dynamic visual design.

A pair arrived in today, and there was only one real serious way to find out what they were all about…….dip them in a big bucket of water! The results were pretty evident, with the color changing more and more as the water sat on the surface. Check the below that we posted on Instagram earlier.
This sort of release reminds me of the Lotto Solista, a boot designed to take advantage of reflective technology. On that occasion, Lotto simply threw it out to the market. New Balance is taking a different approach and are actually looking to educate fans on the release, showing their desire to make inroads on the soccer market.
Engineered and designed for those players seeking a single, momentous opportunity in game, the Furon 2.0 features a Hybrid Mesh Upper, and a Sprint Strike inspired Collar for explosive acceleration and outstanding comfort. Top Line Lacing gives a locked in and precision fit with unsurpassed comfort along with an ultralight Fantom Fit overlay for outstanding strength and support when needed most. Underfoot, Ultra-Directional Studs give unrivaled straight-line speed for those players that have to be first to the ball. There is a lot to take on with this second generation release – NB has taken some of the pieces from the introductory version and modified other key elements.
I can’t say that I’ve been won over by the performance of the Furon itself, but the fact that New Balance are pushing boundaries with such an expressionist designs puts them in a need to check out category. It is the type of release that sets a signature statement, allowing New Balance the opportunity to showcase a boot they obviously value very much in an extremely dramatic way!
