Nike welcomed in a new pack called Spark Brilliance this morning, and this one has two major talking points.
First, we get an introduction to the latest Mercurial Superfly, the 5th installment in the series, via a vibrant two-tone colorway. When announced a few months ago, we discovered this boot was built as a total speed system and features a new plate mapped to the natural contours of the foot. The new Mercurial’s anatomical plate is aligned with the natural contours of the foot, eliminating the gap that previously existed underfoot. Additionally, the boot’s soleplate is 40% lighter than the carbon fiber plate it replaces, yet it is stronger and more responsive.
The Spark Brilliance Pack also marks the return of the original Hypervenom NikeSkin upper on the HyperVenom II silhouette. Nike also provided some insight into why they made a dramatic change. Max Blau, VP Nike Football Footwear stated that:
The upper of the Hypervenom II takes a bit longer to break-in than the Hypervenom I. We provide new boots to our professional players so frequently that we shifted to the Hypervenom I material to ease the break-in period. We want all players to have what the best players in the world are wearing, so we are bringing the Hypervenom I upper back.
Magista and Tiempo round out the pack in vibrant hues with volt accents. The new Mercurial will be available beginning May 28 via the Nike Football App, with the remaining Spark Brilliance boots arriving May 29. The entire pack will be available beginning May 31 on Soccer.com.
