We move onto the second edition of Customs:; where every week or so we’ll feature designs from some of the best and brightest Instagram customization artists. This weeks feature is the UK based Marlon Feeney Thompson, or as he’s known on Instagram settpace. Once again we’ve selected some of his most interesting customs for your viewing pleasure.
1. Adidas Messi 15.1 Black and Purple
Sometimes simplicity is key, and the primarily black design of the Messi 15.1 definitely helps with simplicity. The shock of metallic purple however, gives this design definite pop! While I could do without the number 10 on the heel this custom colourway of the Messi 15.1 looks better than anything Adidas have currently made available in the range, and the elegant look would suit the 5 time Ballon D’Or winner down to the ground.
2. Nike Mercurial Vapor X CR7 Volt Lava
While Ronaldo seemingly gets a new design every fortnight or so to flog to all you hungry punters, he doesn’t have anything quite like these; and it’s a shame too as they’re downright lovely to look at. With a base idea seemingly taken from the CR7: Savage Beauty collection, settpace has played with the colour scheme and teamed purple hits with the “volt lava” perfectly; it gives it a primordial ooze sort of look.
3. Puma evoSPEED SL Purple
The release colourways of the evoSPEED SL haven’t been all that much to write home about (except for maybe Black/Safety Yellow release); so it’s nice to see them get some love here. Crisp would be the first thought that comes to mind when describing this purple and white evoSPEED. The evoSPEED is a boot which lends itself to customs, any colour combination you can think of would work with the evoSPEED, but this reminds me of a combo from the Puma Suede running shoe.
4. Nike Mercurial Vapor X Givenchy
Now this is something! Imagine if boot manufacturers teamed up with the providers of haute couture, you’d get something like this Vapor which includes some styling from French style house Givenchy, who’ll sell you a $1000 t-shirt if you fancy it. Despite being stunning visually, I shudder to think what a pair of boots styled in the haute couture style would set you back to purchase, especially given a company like Givenchy’s standing in global fashion. That being said who wouldn’t love to see some team ups between the different worlds of fashion? (speaking of fashion; maybe Bikkembergs could produce another couple of pairs of boots).
5. Adidas Ace 16+ PURECONTROL Black/Gold
The new boy on the block is already getting some custom treatment from the Instagram crowd, and given the solar green release colourway, something a little more understated is nice to see. While the stripes and stud ends look a little bit more orange than gold it’s a combination which suits the PURECONTROL down to the ground. This is definitely a design I’d like to see Adidas borrow for a future incarnation of the PURECONTROL.
