With Black History Month (BHM) right around the corner, Nike has introduced us to their celebratory boot to mark the occasion. You might recall last year it was a stunning Mercurial Superfly, well this year they have gone with an extra colorful yet just as stunning Magista Obra.
Blasie Matuidi is the player who has been chosen to headline the boot release and BHM. His character and dedication have been a positive force, bringing people together on and off the pitch. For those that want to see them in action, February 7th will be the date he debuts them.
Design wise, we are talking rainbow river with a masterful black lattice covering, a multi-color design crossing the surface of that Flyknit upper, creating a imaginative pattern on one of the most comfortable boots currently on the market. They are the type of boot that players will spend time looking at up close trying to understand what they represent, an ideal opportunity to highlight the need for universal acceptance within our culture. That is their purpose!
For the rest of us, these limited edition boots will be available to buy on February 12th. There is no doubt that they will sell-out very soon after release, so for those serious about securing a pair, I’d keep checking Nike for updates.
The Black History Month collection honors and celebrates Black heritage, in sport and beyond, around the world while also providing financial support to Nike’s Ever Higher Fund, which was created to bring mentorship, sport and all of its benefits to African-American youth.
Anyone know a time yet?
