Leave Your Legacy – Nike Release Custom Carli Lloyd Mercurial Superfly

In case you missed it, Carli Lloyd was today named the FIFA Women Player of the Year and awarded the Ballon d’Or award. In honor of her impressive trajectory and career, Nike introduces this special-edition Mercurial Superfly “Leave Your Legacy” boots.

Designed exclusively for Lloyd, who has an eight-year legacy as a Nike athlete, everything about the boot matches what you’d expect from a Mercurial Superfly. Nike has wrapped the boot in a fresh print design, and it looks extremely sharp. The upper is primarily white, with black trim and laces. The swoosh takes on a celebratory Gold, while the dynamic mid-cut collar features a Wolf Grey. Along the heel, Nike has added a message for defenders left chasing her down on the pitch, “LEAVE YOUR LEGACY”.

Lloyd began her senior national team career on July 10, 2005 and has since won more than 200 international caps, scored 79 international goals and played an integral role in last summer’s Women’s World Cup victory. She will wear these boots on January 23rd in San Diego, during the national team’s next game.

In 16 minutes this past summer, U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Carli Lloyd became a household name, earning a social media callout from the President of the United States and an invite to numerous national morning shows. The accolades followed Lloyd’s heroic performance in the Women’s World Cup final, wherein she scored three goals in those above-mentioned 16 minutes, leading her team to the championship, netting her the tournament’s MVP award and defining her as the first player ever to score a hat trick in the women’s tournament final (and only the second player to accomplish the feat in either the men’s or women’s finals).

This is another prime example of Nike’s commitment to the women’s game, breaking boundaries by releasing and promoting an exclusive women’s release. The design looks extremely sharp and reaction on social media from male players has been extremely popular. There is some similarities between these and the CR7 324K Gold that sold out this past weekend, so the visual design and color combo is obviously one that works really well.

Will pairs be available to purchase? Sadly not. There will only be 20 additional pairs of the special-edition Mercurials created, each have been autographed by Lloyd and will be up for grabs via the Nike Soccer app, @NikeSoccer on Twitter and Instagram.
