It is an odd dynamic, but one that has become a part of the current world of soccer boots; “Limited Edition” boots being purchased just for immediate resale. Only since the Nike GS has the market been treated to limited edition releases, and it is something that fans have quickly embraced.
Case in point the latest customized Francesco Totti release; the Nike Tiempo Legend V Premium with only 3,000 pairs released worldwide.
Nike wised up and created one of the most epic, stylish, assertive releases of all time and they represent their owners game to an absolute tee. Matching Totti’s specific requirements for an iconic fold-over tongue, exquisite craftsmanship and a quilted Alegria leather, this boot offers pure quality.
Within an hour of release, all 3,000 pairs had completely sold-out online. As is the current market trend, you then wait to see what is posted on eBay – the unofficial home of all resale boots. Under normal circumstances, plenty of pairs find new owners through the platform, but the number of pairs that now show up post “Limited Edition” releases is staggering. It might seem unfair to those looking to purchase a pair to actually wear, but buying to re-list on eBay for profit is now the unfortunate norm.
Thankfully this time around, the resale prices have not risen too high and there are opportunities to pick up a “Best Offer” pair for a slightly inflated $300. As it stands, there are over one hundreds pairs on offer – probably part of the reason why the price is not that sky-high. For some, that might seem like a pretty decent chunk of change, but given the boots significance, it is probably a price well worth paying for some players that missed out on the initial release.
