Earlier this week, we welcomed in a pair of the special edition Puma evoPOWER 1.2 Camo. Designed to provide fans with a “sneak peak” of the latest evoPOWER release, they feature what can only be described as a dramatic visually engaging upper print. Puma are no stranger to Camo releases, with each of the evoSPEED and evoPOWER released to date starting out with the limited edition version. Only 580 pairs of these boots were released worldwide, in what is officially listed as a very interesting Peacoat/Bright Plasma colorway.
The defunct red lined design across the upper material is intended to create a disoriented effect, so your focus is taken away from the overall structure of the boot underneath. Don’t mix the term “Camo” here as producing a boot you can’t see or blends in, instead it causing a visual effect that shifts your attention. In person, I have to admit that it does work. Even though you can focus in on the boots definition, bumps and indents, it easily catches your eye and draws you in.
I’ve had the opportunity to wear these in some games and they have felt pretty good. In order to create a review, I’ll need some more time with them. To date, my only comments are as follows:
- Touch on the ball is different to the evoPOWER 1 – primarily a result of less definition in the adapLite.
- Feel like more of a control boot than a power boot.
- Fit a little snug, might be worth considering up a half size to get the right fit!
This is a very modified version of what was an ultra successful evoPOWER 1 release. Not only did that it finish 2014 as “Boot of the Year”, but it also satisfied the wild cries of players in need of a proper power boot. Puma gambled and the end result was a boot that really set a statement. This latest version seems to hold slightly different characteristics and that might change the overall marketing strategy of the range. If anything, these are more control, with a Griptex layer across the upper and the adapLite featuring a less prominent feel. Make sure to check our YouTube unboxing below for a closer look at what they have on offer!
