What Did Angel Di Maria Do To His Socks?

Angel Di Maria made it through 64 minutes of his Manchester United debut today, before he went down with what looked like tired legs. He walked off the pitch at that point, but returned with some crazy looking socks – how’d that happen?

Basically, the Man Utd white socks have a black lining at the top, and while on the ground (seen below) Di Maria took the opportunity to turn them down. Simple as. For some reason, twitter went a little crazy with folks wondering how he got away with a changing his socks, or adding support tape across them. It was a little more simple than that!

Also, it was interesting to see Di Maria choose to wear the Battle Pack version of the Predator Instinct. With several newer colorways currently on the market, his decision to wear the World Cup version of the boot, which he is likely to have well broken in through wear at this point, is a case of a player choosing comfort and stability over branding.
