World Cup Boot Recap Day 11 – Life in the Group of Death

TOPSHOTS-FBL-WC-2014-MATCH30-USA-POR

Day eleven has concluded in Brazil, and that means that every team has played twice. At this point in the World Cup, matches in groups will be played concurrently to avoid any questionable actions or deals between teams. This means that the avid fan will have to multitask and keep track of two games at once. But lets not get ahead of ourselves, because there were three intense matches today that deserve a little more attention. Also, history was made today as the first ever official water break was given between Portugal and the United States (Take note future Qatar World Cup referees).

Be sure to check out the other 10 editions in our World Cup Boot Recap series.

Belgium’s Mercurial Players Link Up

Belgium v Russia: Group H - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

The youngest player to score for Belgium in a World Cup wore a pair of Mercurial Superflies. The substitute Divock Origi gave the dark horses Belgium the winning goal in the 88th minute when he finished off a Eden Hazard cross. In addition to the endline run that set up the goal, Hazard looked lively in his pair of Mercurial Vapors as he came very close to scoring multiple times. Russia had their fair share of opportunities as well. Their best came when Aleksandr Kokorin headed the ball wide right in front of goal. Dmitry Kombarov also wore a pair of orange samba pack F50s that definitely stood out when compared to the battle pack F50s we are now so used to seeing.

Algeria Triumphs in a 6 Goal Thriller

Sandwiched between the two Group G games was the game between South Korea and Algeria. The Fennec Foxes had a memorable effort, as they found the net four times in their win. This means that only one game after scoring their first goal in 28 years, they scored four. Quite impressive if you ask me. Hueng-Min Son actually switched into the battle pack F50 at halftime and out of the earth pack F50. He helped South Korea go down fighting, as Son scored to put pressure on Algeria’s 3 goal lead. South Korea’s second goal also came through the feet of their captain Ja-Cheol Koo who actually wore a pair of Predator LZs in the release colorway. In fact, all six goals were scored by different boots. The four boots that found the back of the net for Algeria were Hypervenoms, Evopowers, Magistas, and Mercurial Superflies.

A Thriller in Group G

Brazil Soccer WCup US Portugal

As an United States fan, that match against Portugal was one of the best I have witnessed. Both teams put in a memorable effort, and to be fair either team could have taken the game. Early on came the heart breaker for the Yanks, as Geoff Cameron mishit a clearance. The ball fell to Nani, who lashed it home in a pair of battle pack F50s to put Portugal up 1-nil. After a half that included an effort that hit the post from Portugal and the United States threatening with long shots, the United States equalized in the 64th minute through a cracker from Jermaine Jones. Jones has worn the all red CTR360 Maestri III since the start of camp and seems to want to stick with them. Dempsey seemed to have sealed the deal in the 81st minute by chesting the ball in. With the U.S. leading 2-1 going into stoppage time, they would have advanced to the Round of 16 if the result had stood. But of course, in the dying moments of the game a magnificent cross from the man they call CR7 found the back of the net via Silvestre Varela’s head. CR7 seems to be wearing the same pair of Superflies with a regular cut collar that he wore against Germany.

The tie means that every team has an opportunity to advance on Thursday. The United States and Germany are both in the driver’s seat as they each have 4 points but both are weary of Ghana and Portugal who each have 1 point. Even though the U.S. and Germany could both advance with a draw, expect to see a hard fought one with both teams battling for the win and the top spot.
