Earlier today, Nike announced their new summer soccer footwear collection that is highlighted by this awesome new Mercurial Vapor IX “Fast Forward ’06” release. Not only does it have a nostalgic feel, but it also has an appearance that fits perfectly with the Brazilian kit!
In 2006, Brasil forward Ronaldo returned to football’s world stage debuting Nike’s latest boot technology. Featuring the first carbon fiber heel-counter and a new high-visibility color, the 2006 Mercurial Vapor was built for speed and comfort.
The 2014 Mercurial Vapor IX, Fast Forward ’06, provides today’s players with modern boot technology inspired by visual elements of the 2006 classic. Subtle graphic references and colors combine with modern materials and innovation to celebrate the boot’s legacy of speed while commemorating an iconic summer for Ronaldo and the Mercurial.

As seen above, a small heel logo mark identifies the original year of inspiration, and if you catch a pair in-hand the sockliner tells the story of key moments in the Mercurial’s history.

This is a release we have been anticipating for a while, following on in the footsteps of the Vapor IX “Fast Forward ’02” that we were introduced to a few weeks back. That version was released with plenty of positive reactions, but I feel this one is even more likely to attract player praise. The 2006 version is about as iconic as it gets, and Nike has done an impressive job of capturing that look while adding a modern feel. It is about as solid as you can get on the more sophisticated Vapor IX boot silo.
One of the more modern visuals that comes with the new version is a super shiny, chrome tongue. It delivers an extra fresh dynamic that sets them apart from any other Vapor X release to date.
In terms of availability, they are currently listed at soccer.com for $224.
