This here is a thing of beauty – Adidas has relaunched an updated version of the Copa Mundial in limited numbers to recoup some much needed attention for the heritage range. And, with a look like this – a White Copa Mundial – it is absolutely sure to work!
Released in 1982, the Copa Mundial is the best-selling cleat in soccer history and has been worn by some of the all-time greats including Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Zico & Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Since then more than 10 million pairs have been sold and the Copa Mundial was actually the last revolutionary product innovation created by sporting goods legend and founder of the adidas brand Adi Dassler. He had been personally involved in the early development of the original Copa Mundial before he passed away in 1978.
This version, like the original, boasts a kangaroo leather upper and additional leather provided on the heel, intended to improve durability and stability. There are some slight modifications between the new and the old, which are intended to make the new version slightly more modern without losing its old-school, traditional feel – the colorway has been reversed, obviously, with white being the prominent color launching the boot into the modern game.

Over the past few months, Nike has taken a bite out of the Copa with the release of the Nike Premier. But, with the World Cup just around the corner, this is one of several surprise releases that Adidas has up its sleeve. There is a strong emphasis on reviving the silo and making it popular again. Watch this space for more on the upcoming “Adidas Copa Collection“!
Will this actually revive the Copa name? What do you guys think of the release?
adidas will release a LIMITED number of pairs tomorrow via adidas Soccer and soccer.com, with a retail price of $140.
Stay tuned if you want to snag a pair as they are sure to sell fast, but as always we will have updated links available at time of release.
A stroke of genius…so simple yet so effective!!!
imo it wont sell. People would rather a white adipure.
i would think so too, but about every game i play (high school matches), somebody is wearing some copas
The adiPure lost me when they went to calfskin. There's something about the feel you get with good quality K-leather.
I was about to order a pair from Adidas yesterday, then noticed that they are listed as “full-grain leather,” not kangaroo. Chatted with an Adidas rep on the site who also told me they were made in Indonesia, not Germany. That made me change my mind.
I'm not sure where you are getting the info and the rep was definitely wrong!
via adidas: "this version of the Copa continues to be made in Scheinfeld, close to adidas HQ in Germany. It boasts a kangaroo leather upper and additional leather provided on the heel"
I am reading the same info you are giving on soccer.com. However, here is the page from adidas.com
Product Information
The men's Copa Mundial football boots have been running the beautiful game since the late '70s, and this version is just as skilled as ever. They have a full grain leather upper and a durable firm ground outsole.
Full grain leather upper for comfort and soft feel
Synthetic lining for comfort
Durable outsole for firm natural grounds
Imported
Perhaps the rep I chatted with was uninformed, in which case Adidas needs to update the page.
Definitely a fault on Adidas part – which really sucks considering it is their own product! I'd imagine they copied and pasted that from some other page.
te butz sa piekne!!!
Revive the Copa name? It is still one of the best selling boots worldwide
