Ever wondered what boots Sir Alex Ferguson wears?
Well, we have the answer! His boot of choice since 2002 has been the Nike Tiempo. Sir Alex is a regular out on the pitch and like any serious manager, he is not afraid to step in and give a quick demo of how it should be done. Over the past 11 seasons, he has been sporting a consistent black colorway in the heritage range, following the line of Tiempo releases through those years, from the Premier to the Legend. The only one he hasn’t taken to is the current Tiempo Legend IV release (which features no tongue). Important to note, Manchester United has been sponsored by Nike that entire time, which does mean he had to stick to wearing Nike boots.
But he hasn’t always been a Tiempo range.
Back in the 1999/2000 season when Manchester United won the treble, they were sponsored by Umbro and that had Fergie wearing an iconic pair of Umbro Speciali. Again, he stuck it out with the Blackout colorway.
And then there was his managerial career before heading to Manchester. While manager of Aberdeen and Scotland, he sported some Umbro boots. Aberdeen were sponsored by Adidas at the time, so it makes sense that he would be wearing the signature 3-stripe boots.
We salute everything Sir Alex has done over the past three decades and appreciate the fact that his choice of footwear stayed as consistent as his winning attitude!
The Umbro Speciali from ’99-’00 was one of the best feeling boots ever made. Great touch on the ball from them and they had the fold-over tongue which was super popular back then.
Love Sir Alex and hate to see him go. But I also have a boot related question. Do you think Maestri’s are a option for stirkers?
I dare say he only wears the boots that he gets free from the kit supplier as he is a Canny Scot (not unlike myself), unless it is a contractual thing (Ally McCoist wears Adidas Copa Mundials but Rangers are with Umbro at the moment so who knows).
Also, not sure but the Tiempos SAF wore from 2002 to 2008 are Tiempo Premiers, not Legends, but like I said, I’m not sure.
they are tiempo premiers.
