Over the past few weeks, athletes across the world have been ‘lacing up’ in order to support the RED foundation, set up to fight HIV/AIDS across Africa. I mentioned the “Lace Up Save Lives” campaign in some posts a few weeks back, but not you can actually purchase a pair for yourself. 100% of the proceeds from sales of the laces goes to the Global Fund (www.theglobalfund.org) and to support soccer-based programs to help fight AIDS in Africa. You might have noticed players like Didier Drogba and Andrei Arshavin sporting the laces in their cleats recently, and other stars such as LA Laker’s Kobi Bryant have also joined in the initiative (see video below). It is a really good idea, and it applies for both pro players and those at the way to amateur level. If you want to show your support, you can get a pair at soccer.com for $3.99.
