Nike Tiempo 94: Commemorating US Soccer History

Nike Tiempo 94 Front

You have got to love this latest Nike Tiempo release, specially designed to commemorate the US team of ’94.

I remember when the 1994 World Cup took place here in the US, I was glued to a TV in Ireland throughout the tournament, as the Irish team battled to the first knockout stage. Ireland’s first game in the tournament was a 1-0 win over Italy at Giant’s Stadium, what a game that was! But one of the major talking points of that ’94 World Cup was the US arriving on the international scene, and putting up a stellar fight versus the Brazilians in the round of 16! Even back in Ireland as a 12 year old, I remember people talking about the US performance, and I don’t think it really was a turning point for how other nations looked at US soccer.

In light of that performance, Nike decided to recreate the classic and ever tasty Tiempo soccer cleat from ’94, the Nike Tiempo 94. The cleat will be re-released on the market in November as a limited edition, and is sure to sell out in super quick time as US fans will be fighting to get their hands on a pair! After getting to check them out, I might be one of those in line for my own pair. They will feature a modern, updated outsole for excellent traction and have been crafted exclusively in Italy. Another cool aspect is the fact that they come with a pretty sweet commemorative shoe bag. Just underneath the tongue, you will find a ‘limited edition’ badge that has been sewn into the top of the cleat. Also, on the actual underside of the tongue, the old school ‘Nike’ sits inside the term ‘Tiempo Premier’. Classic! Here is what else you need to know about the cleats:

  • Black color, with yellow sole.
  • Old School tongue, that has been redesigned to suit current day players.
  • Central lacing system.
  • Glass fiber shank outsole; forefoot flex grooves.
  • Soft Kangaroo leather upper.
  • Combination bladed stud design.
  • Designed for firm natural surfaces.
  • Weight in at 11.4 oz.

Also worth noting is that in that ’94 World Cup Final Romario, who led Brazil, and Italy’s Paolo Maldini both sported the Nike Tiempo Premier.
